This is the beginning for those who are familiar with KingsIsle's Pirate 101 and for those who are just finding the game. With the closure of three of Disney's online games; ToonTown, Fairies' Pixie Hollow, and Pirates of the Caribbean Online, P101 could be an appealing alternative.
If you haven't done so yet, then you will need to download Pirate101 from *here* to begin the installation so you can start playing the game. Once the game is installed, a cut scene will play. You will then be able to begin the customization of your pirate.
First you will
need to create your toon character. Decide if you are going to play as either a
boy or girl pirate.
Choose your name from the pre-created ones listed. The first column lists adjectives and adverbs to describe your pirate. It is optional to use those listed in the first and third columns. However, the second column name choice is mandatory.
Second you can complete the puppet show "test" to have the game decide your pirate based on your own answers. You can skip the questionnaire and select your choices if you are already sure about your decisions.

Orphan Question: How did you lose your parents?
The answer you
choose for this question will determine which companion you get from the
Presidio Dungeon.
Squid Attack-a Buccaneer
crab named Birgus Latro
Mutiny-a Buccaneer
zombie named Dead Mike
Shipwrecked-a
Privateer dog named Lucky Jack Russell
Armada-a Buccaneer
guinea pig named Gaspard De Vole
Storm-a
Swashbuckler rat named Milo Graytail
These companions
will be discussed in more detail in the post " A Captain's
Crew...Companions".
The answer you
choose for this question will determine which attribute you start out with.
MooShu (Born
Warrior)- +5 Damage
Skull Island (Born
Sneak)- +5% Dodge
Grizzleheim
(Naturally Tough)- +5% Health
Krokotopia
(Naturally Spooky)- Increased Power effects
Marleybone (Keen
Eyes)- +5% Accuracy
I will be
discussing how these attributes can help your pirate in the posts " Stay
in School!...Classes" and " Everyone Has Some...Talents".
It's obvious that
choosing any of these crimes will determine the class of pirate you will be
playing.
Dueling
(Swashbuckler)
Brawling
(Buccaneer)
Treason
(Privateer)
Hoodoo (Witchdoctor)
Smuggling
(Musketeer)
As I mentioned,
each of the above three questions are pertinent to determining your pirate's
unique companion, beginning attribute, and your class.
Now it's time to
customize your pirate. You get to choose your facial features, hair
style/color, and fashion your pirate's starting ensemble.
Time to hoist your flag! But first you have to design it.
Time to hoist your flag! But first you have to design it.
Choose an icon from those pictured. You can use two different color palettes to fill in the picture.
After you have
decided on your icon, you need to create a background for it. The color palette
on the left (black in the picture) will be your base color and the right
(turquoise) is your trim. These two colors you choose for your background will
also be the colors that your companions will wear.
There is NO changing your flag design or
re-dyeing the colors at this time. So be sure that the flag you create will
make your pirate proud to fly it high.
Now that you have created your pirate, your flag, and chosen your colors it's time to begin your adventure.
Best of luck to you, Pirate. You're gonna need it!
Up next Part 2. "Stay in School!...Classes" where I will discuss the attributes of each one and compare to other RPG games.
